Axle Centralisation Help!

I've been thinking abit about flipping my axle, and I wanted the wheels to be central in the arch....

Is this the right way to go about it?

On LHS is typical flip, on RHS is flip with axle moved over on the mount so it sits centrally again. If this is the correct way, how much does the axle need to be moved on the mount?

Many thanks, Al

Aw man! I've been waiting for ages to do the flip because I thought he'd given up on making them! The saddle being the bit I called the "mount" in my diagram?

Doh!

Yes saddles = mounts

Hmmmm

You might be right but I know he fitted a pair of offset saddles to Caddyshacks old 20VT when he re-lowered that and fitted discs on the back as well.

What I've drawn up the top must be nonsense because it wouldn't work!

Why not just redrill the main leaf spring an inch or so further back

The Leaves are hardened steel, they would be hard to drill and you shouldnt be weakening them like that, they could develop stress fractures around the hole.

I am no engineer so dont know the science but I have mechnical sympathy and it sounds wrong to me, plus this has been discussed with the same outcome.

i have done it like in ur pics by placing the axle in the correct central place on the leaf spring and drilled thro the original hole in the leafs and right through the axle and it worked perfect for me

My caddys had the axle flipped by the previous owner and I wanna drop her another inch, if I purchased the said "custom blocks" from al, would it be a straight swap.

If you amend your axle to sort this surely your geometry would be out.

Is the solution more body work related?

right ok sorry if im being thick lol but im looking at doin the flip in the coming weeks am i right in assuming that to centralise it properly that the axle and the spring platforms you move have to be drilled off center to make the axle center just want to make sure before i balls it up

There is many ways to do this, IMO.

The amendment is in the saddle, and its locating pin, and bottom plate.

Hole in the axle and the leaf springs stay the same!

How much further back on the spring does the axle need to move? Like 30mm?
