Was it easy to swap over? I’ve been looking at doing the same conversion

i didn't swap it over, i used a different pinion, i put the pinion in the freezer and bearing in the oven for 20mins, went on like a glove.

Was this on a factory rack?
I've got a Quaife kit to fit, but I've got a Meyle rack. There is the odd bit of information about repro racks needing bearings spacer, but nothing definitive.
Need to get the turbo downpipe off before I can investigate, but that's not happening at the moment!

the quaife kit is to fit the original rack, it could be different for a repo one.
They used a repo one by mistake for the mk2 golf, and apparently the kit doesn't fit the original without modifying, so i dare say you're gonna run into issues.

Pickup a original rack if i was you, i saw one on ebay last week might still be there.
