    MK1 leaf spring setup

Hi, I fitted a new set of Koni dampers from Retrofication yesterday and noticed I have an unusual leaf spring setup. Reading through all the posts I am aware there are 2 different setups for early and late MK1's. 3 leafs on the early ones and 2 on later, mine is an '86 and has 4 leafs? The bottom assister leaf has been fitted off centre with more of the leaf towards the front, you can see the original centre hole so they must have drilled a new one off centre.
Just curious as to why this might have been been done?

Was it already lowered when you bought it?

If so, maybe the previous owners ‘Home brewed’ stiffer set up???

Thanks, yes was already lowered when I bought it. Is it necessary to stiffen the rear suspension when you flip the axle. I have around an inch and a half between the tyre and arch, and the tyres still contact the arch occasionally. Hopefully the Koni shocks will help.
How do others with 2 leafs get on with flipped axles?

depends how wide you're wheels are i guess, i find the rear suspension on my mk1 is soft, too soft for sure and i've just got the single spring + helper spring setup
