    02a vs 02j

So ive had it in my head that I want an 02j box to go onto my r32 lump. Mainly because its direct fit to the subframe and driveshafts.
Ive been avoiding looking for 02a boxes because they are older and apparently weaker and the shift tower is different.

A refurb'd 02a box is after popping up for sale over here with a quaife diff and shot penned gears for a grand. Im tempted.
Would I be stupid to pass it.
What are the differences between an 02a and an 02j?
Can the 02j shifter tower be put on the 02a? Is the box casing any different?
    Help please

I have a good VR5 02J gearbox, but it doesnt have a shift tower fitted to it.

The 02J isnt any stronger than the 02A, but the 02A has a better diff ratio better suited to 15" wheels with low profile tyres (see my V5 sport thread for a comparison)

I could steal the shift tower from my tdi 02j.
Im just debating with myself should I grab this 02a because of the quaife diff and shot penned gears.

the quaife alone new without fitting will cost you over £700. buy it and put the 02J shifter in and you're away

Just a thought, if you did decide to go for the 02A...is it for a VR6 a 4 cylinder engine? as the bell housing is different

It came out of an r32 turbo engine, the chap that had it changed to an 02q box. Yes the bell ends are different.

How much do you want for your 02j Al? And have you any ideas how much it would cost to me?
