My Mk1 Caddy. 28k mile shell, AAZ, 5sp, coils etc

    Hi Everyone.

Its time to let my Caddy go to a new home.

I have owned this for the last 11 years and bought it as a bog standard 1.6D 4speed with just 28K miles on it.

I used it for a few months before taking it off the road and starting work modifying it.

I have been a member of the http://www.vwcaddy.com since 2007 and I have kept a full build thread running since I started.

Most of the work was carried out between 2007 and 2010 but then due to house moves, children and work commitments it sat in my workshop until 2014 when I got it up and running. It then went into storage again until last year when I had a local garage MOT it and that’s pretty much where we are now.

I’ve driven it around a bit locally and it definitely turns heads.

    So what’s been done:

    Here’s a link to the build thread - http://www.vwcaddy.com/showthread.ph...-caddy-project

    Body:

All rust removed and dents sorted.

    Welding done and underside undersealed.

Engine bay stripped and sealant removed and all unwanted holes welded up and the bay half shaved.

Wiring loom run between the inner and outer wing and through the front cross member to tidy wiring.

Custom rear rollpan with number plate recess.

Bed repaired, Tetra sealed and then Raptor Painted.

Flush Perspex rear window (unfortunately has a small crack in the bottom corner).

    Chrome handles and mirrors.

Louvre’s welded into bonnet and front wing.

Front indicators located in chassis leg recess’s.

Twin lamp grill with clear cross hair headlights.

    Lower lip splitter.

Engine bay and body sealed, primered and resprayed in MG RV8 Green with gold flake in 2007 (now has a couple of really little marks but in general looks great).

    Interior:

Champagne Beige carpet in great condition with intact leather footpad.

Black and champagne beige bucket seats.

BMW E36 M3 dashboard custom fitted. All BMW heater vents linked via custom ducting to the VW heater fan.

VW headlights etc wired into the BMW switches etc.

Digital speedo with built in fuel, ind etc tell tales plus a boost and temp guage (just needs digital speed sender attached to driveshaft.

    New headlining.

CD player with new door speakers.

New gear gaitor and billiard ball knob.

    Engine

Engine swapped for 1.9L TD AAZ engine.

    Rebuilt Pump (Reg Cheeseman).

    Pump mod.

Rebuilt KKK turbo with boost pin mod.

New cambelt and all serviced etc.

    K&N Green Filter.

2in Straight through De-cat exhaust system.

New radiator custom mounted under slam panel with Slimline (hidden ) SPAL Fan.

Running gear, brakes and suspension etc.

    5 Speed MK3 02a gearbox.

    New Clutch and cable.

    New gear linkage.

    Custom 100mm driveshafts.

    22mm brake master cylinder.

    9in Servo.

    New Calipers.

    New disks.

    New pads.

    New brake pipes.

    New coilovers.

BBS RS Rep Alloys with Toyo Proxy tyres.

I just had the tracking done and its driving nicely.

There are still a few things left to do.

The heater needs a new knob as missing.

A top mount is clonking (I may replace if I get time)

The gear linkage still needs a little adjustment as goes into 1-4 fine but needs 5th adjusting. (will try to do this when I get time)

So that’s about it I think.

Solid Mk1 Caddy that’s done 28K miles, has MOT until April (but could put another on it for cost) has a swapped engine and box, turns heads everywhere but still has room for the new owner to leave his or her mark.

    £4250 ovno

Nice truck. Drivers side shock top mount looks like it's parted. Could be your clunk sound?

    Thanks mate.
I thought it had new top mounts last April but could be wrong.

Looking at the pic you may be right.

Will check next time i'm down there.

I might just swap them out anyway and see.

    Hi All.

    I hate Ebay sometimes.

The guy who won my caddy lives 350 miles from me and cant collect!

what a waste of time and money!

Anyway...I have amended my ad on ebay to a classified ad and amended the post above.

I am Hampshire based and its up for £4450.

    Thanks Steve

your caddy is.. very unique, the colour, interior, rear bed, isn't to everyone's taste. Have patience, someone will fall in love with it, but it's not for everyone. I am surprised it hasn't sold though, very solid and low miles, glws.

Wrong time of year I’d say, sit on it till it’s warmer and sunnier.
