o2a gear box selector tower spring

The large diameter weak spring that sits in the selector tower....

Cant find it on ETOS, searched transporter, golf and passat and none of them look like my selector or have a tower spring at all.

My tower is from a 94 T4 and looks like the same design I've seen in every other 02 from similar era gearbox I've ever taken apart - so nothing radical.

    Anyone know the part number?

Found it under 88 caddy - think it's either

    020301259B

    02K301259

But that's not the right selector mech so maybe not

Mines rod change and this is cable type but you can see the spring

    whats your gearbox code?

I suspect the spring is part of the selector housing

Has your spring gone weak then Reg?

Can you not measure the diameter and match it up with something?

I'm splitting an 02j box if you need a tower Reg

Reg's box is an 02B, im not sure of the tower compatibility, but chances are the springs will be the same

Edit: Looking at Reg's original pic, the tower is different to the 02A & J but as I said the springs may match

The bush / seal at the top of the box was a bit worn on mine, making it sloppy and letting water in

Weak? There are three bits of it left there might be a complete coil to get the diameter from - no chance of getting the spring length!

Ah nice, the remnants are floating around in the gearbox then!

Nah, not anymore - gearbox completely striped and rebuilt.

There was far worse floating around the gearbox - like a big section of casing that had been punched into the gearbox by a loose driveshaft. The gearbox had ground it into tiny pieces.

It was only when I came to refit the selector as the final piece that I noticed the spring.
