    Hi Gearbox oil type

    Hi Sorry did try to search

    I have a mk1 caddy 1.6 4 speed. can anyone advise what gearbox oil to put in please. have engine out so rude not to

    I use Red Line MT90 with good luck. Truck from 122 degrees in Death Valley to 46 below zero here in North Dakota. The cold shifting with the synthetic is a lot easier than with the regular gear oil.

    Initially typed MTL but when I checked it is the MT90.

    Both will work. .

    In the UK you might be able to get away with a more lenient oil. As I recall 75W90 is what the tranny requires.

    I hear it must be the right class. ap1, ap2 ap3.....cant remember which because some have chemicals bad for certain metals that are in certain transmissions. synchro mesh penzoil was not one. I use lucas 75w-90
