I once used a teng set of torx, it exploded on me when I used it on the windy gun, slashed my cheek up right by my eye!!

Not tempered right, needless to say I've never broken my snap on ones

I didn't think snap on did either? They've never broken on me, useful for T30 on hubs etc, usually by hand they chew the teeth but smack them with a windy and they come right out.

Don't do it! You're an engineer not a fitter.

You say that but I've yet to find another brand that match their quality, and ease of replacements.

replacements? If they are that good why do you need replacements

In the name of inverse snobbery - halfords will replace broken tools and they are open Sundays - but their tools don't come with a sticker/ t shirt or backwards baseball cap so I can see your point.

Because when im using the handle of a ratchet to lever something siezed off in the engine bay [closest tool is the right tool] and I break it from hitting it with a lump hammer, it gets replaced FOC no questions.

I appreciate that you may think its brand whorish, but they're expensive for a reason, they use the right materials and don't skimp, don't make gimicky tools like angled ratchets and button removing bits that are fucking shit and unergonomic.

You soon learn from slipping and smashing your knuckle skin off once with a cheap tool, to never use cheap tools again.

I don't know of any Halfords that will come to me and replace my tools either.

A tool thread pops up from time to time.

For the motortrade Snap-On has it covered; Van comes around once a week and lets you pay weekly, or on finance. And mechanics and such normally work for someone else so cant shoot off and buy tools somewhere else as and when the feel like or need a certain tools! So your choice is made.

Plus no tool shops caters for the motortrade, and just carry the odd useful tool, the Halfords profesional, Draper Expert etc etc.. is fine for the serious DIYer, but they just dont offer the range of tools that snapon do and cannot be considered a trademans tool whatsoever. Try going into Halfords on a Sunday asking for a spline tool or a ribe, and watch the spotty kids face start twitching as he tries to comprehend what you just said!

Teng & Facom are ok, but prices are similar to snapon so why bother, plus they are not as available, and the vans come and go as they please!

I personally have a bit of everything for whatever reason, but its years and years of a collection, and only gets replaced when broken with whats available at the time (hense a bit of everything)! But for something's snapon are unbeatable, which includes ratches, battery guns, allen, torx etc. Personally im not a fan of their spanners as I find they dig into my hand, whereas my old Britool, Gedore or Halfords Pro are much nicer to handle.

Moral is I buy what suits my budget and availability at any given time, even Chinese if its a one off job (like removing injectors from my old ML. It did the job for cheap and now sits never to be used again), I would imagine my press tools are even chinese but not had any fail as yet
