Registering a MK1 Caddy LEZ compliant

I am in the process of trying to get my caddy registered as compliant with the TFL so ican enter the LEZ in London.

MK1 caddys should be compliant as they are under 1.205 tonnes unladen weight. I checked my caddy on some scales this morning and it was around 1 tonne.

So i called the TFL and they said i had to have a letter from VW on VW headed paper stating this fact. This letter would need to be submitted with the LEZ registration form found here: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/...kt-tab-panel-4

I suggested another option could be to change my V5C so that it stated the caddys weight. The TFL person agreed and said once this was updated by the DVLA, this would also update the TFL system and i would then be compliant! Easy Peasy ......or so i thought

I contacted the DVLA to see what they would need from me to change the registered weight, to which i was promptly told it was not possible to add this information as it was never originally submitted by VW when the caddy was first registered.......

I have heard other people saying they did this, but this does not seem possible according to my discussion on the phone with the DVLA.

That leaves me the only option of a VW letter.

I tried the local VW garage, who then said speak to differnt VW garage that dealt with commercial vehicles. They then bumped me off and gave me the number of VW commercial main office. A helpful man then gave me the number of a nice sounding lady in a special department that deals with VW Certificate of Conformance. There number is 01908 601534.

She asked for my email address so that she can send a VW form for me to fill in. This will allow me to make an application to VW for a certificate fo conformance detailing full caddy specification inculding the unladen and gross weights. The cost of this will eventually be £25 once they have the certificate ready.

I checked to see if she had had other people trying to get the information for LEZ complience and she said yes. She said if this doesnt work there is an LEZ specific letter they (VW) can write (at a cost of £50) on my behalf to TFL. I figured i would go with the Certificate of Conformance route first and see what happens.

In short, this has been the most conveluted system of phone calls bumping me from person to person to get the right information, but i think I might have found the exact solution other epople can use to get their MK1 caddy registered as LEZ compliant.

What a ball ache, all because a tiny bit of information was never submitted by VW

Why cant one persons application make all MK1 caddys compliant. Is it even possible to get a factory VW MK1 caddy that is over 1.205 tonnes unladen weight?

    Stickied!!

Good info. Although if the registration was done correctly in the first place you wouldn't need to do it

How/Why did you caddy come up as non compliant Did they write to you telling you so. I have two Mk1 Caddys and live within to LEZ and have heard nothing.I use one of them daily, they both are registered as Golf/Caddy on the V5's

I'm also in the LEZ zone my caddy is compliant but it's not used yet, but for example rich t s caddy he is selling is not compliant, but can be made compliant.

How come some are and some not compliant, is it the way they was registered from new like PLG or Comercial????

They all must be PLG for MOT and road tax.Would be intresting to know what people have recorded as model type on there V5. Do you know why Rich T's Caddy is non compliant.

I checked my number plate one the LEZ checker webiste: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez/...kt-tab-panel-3

I checked here because my Mrs lives in London as was one of the reasons i have sold my T4 as it wasnt compliant. So i was gutted when i checked my caddy and it stated it as none compliant.

My mate has a T4 and he actually got a letter warning him about the LEZ.

Do both of your caddys show up as compliant on the website check?

Further news on my quest ........i have discovered i have one wrong number for my VIN number in my V5. looks like an error that has been registered since the caddy was registered. Going to ignore this and keep focused on getting my LEZ ticket for the caddy.

i don't think its because its strictly non compliant, i think its an unknown so the default is to say its non compliant until you prove otherwise....

My V5 says my caddy's model is: "car derived van" and "PLG".

Who knows why they arnt all the same. All that matters to me is making TFL computer system recoginse my caddy as compliant so i can drive in London.

Latest development is i have chosen apply for the Low Emissions Zone Letter (LEZ) or Data letter for £50 as it seems to by sepcific for this LEZ application.

Well I have been into London LEZ areas with all my Caddys MK1's, 2's & 3's and never had an issue!

    quote from their own website

"The Low Emission Zone affects larger vans, minibuses, lorries, buses and coaches as well as other specialist vehicles"

Just drive in and im sure you'll hear nothing from them

And possibly pick up a fine too, why not just check your caddy mk1 on the LEZ site first

Had exactly the same problem with mine when it was a td. Tried to register the weight and was turned down. I fitted a 16v and petrols don't come under lez. Change on my v5 and sorted. Its just another money making scheme
