    TheLegend Caddy Project

Ok so I'm Brian from Ireland and this is my Caddy Project.
Now I would love all the members of the forum to tell me what they think and help me out.

The first two pictures are of when i got it.
The third is of the way it was sitting the next day, black headlights, badgeless grill and GTI arches

ok so the caddy sat in my garden from July to last week and then i decided i was goin to do it right so i took the wings off it and stripped all the underseal off..... what a S**T job. Took it back to bare metal and primed it with zinc phosphate.

The tailgate was in not so good shape so i took it to my mates and we had to cut it open. put a couple of pipes in it to keep it straight but while it was apart i took the handle out of the front and put it in the back side of the tailgate

isn't that going to be a bit weird having the handle on the inside of the tailgate?

lol Plumb if i had 4 mates that i sing with do you really think i'd be doin the caddy myself.

43655 - no it isn't weird at all, it sits flush and is actually easier to open.

ok its been a while and i had actually forgot that i had started this.

In the end I didn't send it for sand blasting on the advise of a mate, he said it would warp the shell to much.
So i took to the task of stripping the paint off, Dont know what sort of paint the last guy used but talk about a job an a half. Took me forever!

I also bought a mig welder and taught myself how to weld.
Put a couple of small patches in to the inner wings and sill. a patch about the size of a number plate into the floor on the p/s/f along the sill.
Took out a few dents down the sides.

The front panel is damaged and i was goin to fix it but i think it would be easier to replace it.
The back panel is rotten, what thickness of metal would you advise putting into it?
Goin to replace the whole panel (bit where the tow bar goes on)
