Thread: MK1 GTI Engineering Resto

    MK1 GTI Engineering Resto

Right im probably going to regret this but here goes:

Some will be aware of this Caddy, some wont, so for the benefit of everyone

In all my years working with Caddy's I have only ever come across two of these GTI Engineering Caddy's. I cannot confirm how many were ever built and neither can GTI Engineering themselves, but It would not suprise me if only two ever got built due to their near £12000 price tag back in 1986

So we have now established how rare these are Idealy I would like this to go to someone who will keep it 100% original, this particular GTI retains every single detail that it left the Silverstone factory with bar the original Blaupunkt head unit. But obviously this will be up to the new owner.

The only other known one of these was recently restored but sadly has lost a lot of its original features including its engine hence my desire for this one to be kept as is!

It IS in need of welding to the outer, and part of the inner rear sills, so it will be a bit of a project for someone, but definitely worth the effort due to its heritage.

I dont have any recent pictures at the moment, but will get these ASAP, but if you are interested I would suggest you come and take a look at it

In these pics it isnt fitted with the proper wheels, these are currently on my Sport with excellent tyres and are included in the sale. the bed is straight but does need some work, and it also has a straight tailgate.

Has every bit of spec on the sheet except for the H/Unit

Wheels included as on my sport

Im offering this on here first and the price is £2500 firm as it actually owes me slightly more.

    No offers, no Part Ex's.

If it doesn't sell on here it will go on Ebay next week with the above price as a starting bid!

    DONT DO IT !
you will regret it. I have a space in my shed if you are struggling for space and I will lend you a tenner if you are short.

Just to add i used this as a daily for a little while when I owned it before Al.

It drives really well and handles great with the strut brace, best handling 'non lowered' mk1 I've driven :tumbs_up

    Cheers for the offer Monty

But its not really about the money or space

I planned on restoring it to concourse, but I cant see me doing this any time soon as I have my VR to do, and I want to also make a start on my Escort

Im regretting it already, but I would sooner see someone make it brand new again, rather than it sitting in my yard.

If the price includes delivery, I'll have it.

I've seriously considered it --- even with the added delivery expense --- but don't think I could register/tag it for street use by virtue of not meeting US emissions and crash protection standards of 1986. To say nothing of some forum members wanting to have my head for taking it out of Ol' Blighty.

It really should stay there. I was so glad when Jim got it as I knew he would honor the history. When he decided to get rid of it, was equally glad that Al took it on. Sure hope it goes to someone that will continue to respect its provenance.

Are you sure you won't reconsider Al? We could start a collection to pay for your costs of keeping it in "the museum".
    .
What, you may ask, is the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don't know and I don't care.
