    Vr6 Caddy project!

    Hi People,
Ive been on the forum for a little while now, watching project threads, getting much need info on the Mk1 chassis, and have decided to start a build thread of my own.

I bought this last year minus the engine and box and have started to get my finger out and get on with it now that the winters here.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ics1212022.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ics1212026.jpg

    Then i sold this runaround:
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...oloebay046.jpg

Then i had the chance of this,so this is where it all began.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ics1212024.jpg

    2.8 OBD1 98k .

Started to strip it down to the shell and removed the rear axel.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture518.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture629.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture628.jpg

Snapped a few bolts on they way out, time for some heat:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture630.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture636.jpg

Had some problems with the bolts holding the springs to the body they were completly rotten. Got out the angle grinder and chopped them. Finaly got the offender removed, stripped down all the leafs, back plates, and gave them a good drench over night in some strong commercial chipshop gravey:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture683.jpg

    Removed all bushes:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay009.jpg

Then after a good couple of days soaking in the chipshop gravey i removed them and gave them a good power wash and angle wirebrushed them back to bare metal.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay011.jpg

Then a good coat of zinc182.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...b/33d9f712.jpg

Then a couple of coats of Hammerite Gold anti-rust paint.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay018.jpg

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay061.jpg

Got all new bushes in :
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay057.jpg

    Then started the assembly:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay056.jpg

Then i got these 2" lowering blocks:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ddyebay021.jpg

Then as i read more into the Vr6 conversion and was wanna get it on the road asap, i had the chance of this and decided to go the oil burner route.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture641.jpg

Spent a few weeks welding once i got some repair panels from a local breakers, top strut area, the bed, small patch on the drivers sill, both rear inner arches.
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture541.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture542.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...cture589-2.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture611.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture613.jpg

Cut the piece require for the repair:
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture612.jpg

and sat in ready for the mig:
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture621.jpg

    All the weldings now complete:

Started to remove the wings to check the usual rot spots:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture552.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture554.jpg

They were solid,so i blasted the inner arches with overpaintable stone chip:
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture562.jpg

Then i removed the dash and interior:

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture566.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture565.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture572.jpg

Then after good few weeks trying to make up my mind which engine platform i was gonna use, im back to the Vr6,with the dash from the mk2.

    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...ics1212034.jpg
    http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Picture653.jpg

So im nows about ready to remove the Vr6 engine/loom/box and remove all the bits n pieces from the mk2 which i can use for the conversion.

I would appreciate if anyone on the forum can give me an idea of which parts to keep and which are not required,as im running out of space in the drive, and am gonna just remove whats required n scrap the rest of the shells.

    Comments appreciated, thanks, Jawz_mob.

Finaly got around to doing so work on the caddy:

Cut out all the holes in the bed and replaced them with some spare bed i cutout a donor which was rotten throughout.

    Welded in the repair panels:

grinded them all nice n smooth / ready for a coating of Rhinorapter.

Prept all the leafs spring ready for zinc182 then a coat of hammerite gold.

Then gave them a few coats.

Fitted new bushes to the leafs and then Bulit the rear back together once flipped:

Fitted the rear axel built without blocks

Treated the stub axels to some zinc182 then some pasticoat rustnot.

Built up the stub axles and brake assembly with new shoes/wheels cylinders and spring components.

Then it look like a 4x4 at the rear so i invested in some lowering blocks, removed the rear axel again and fitted them.

Looking better at the rear now.

Then turned the caddy around to remove the wings and sort out the front.

Then i started on this with the inspiration i get from here to get my finger out and strip the Vr.Started labelling everything as i went lol.

Late that night it was ready for lifting out.

    Out she comes.

Off went the front and rear subframes ready for cutting out the rear mounts.

All comments appreciated / off for a few days now so im gonna get the wiring loom out.

Got a Polo 6n dash and loom from my mate so am getting there. sssssssslowley.

Finally got a few hours on the build today, and was looking for some answers.

The loom pictured to the righthand side of the Vr6 most of this is for the ABS,do i just follow the loom back to fusebox and ditch the whole loom.
