    MK2 GTD intercooler on mk1

has any1 done this, and how easy is it?? im guessing i have to make new mounts etc, or can the mk2 brackets be utilised??

Do i have to rotate the battery 90 degrees to get the bottom of it in??

any help / pics would be greatly appreciated :-)

    I'm in the same situation

From what I have gathered you could install it with most of the G2 plastics and about in the same place but it's a very tight squeeze and you have to clear up a lot underneath, batterie, wash bottle. The clutch cable is also different on the GTD (has automatic compensation and has a bend and is longer) because of the intercooler but most people just go with a fron mounted version (in front of the radiator).
Check out "Darth Gary" pickup, real nice job

I 'm looking into following the Callaway Turbo Rabbit setup a bit like the Passat one. I'll post the concept dwg this evening

    Here's some pics

Not the best IC - in a poor location.

Is it worth the hassle - you'll get decent money for the IC and shroud - especially if you use the phrase "G60" and 'rare'

does any1 have any pics of gibber's? I wanna do it as i wanna keep the engine lookin stock, and want it to look like vw intended. The caddy will one day be a tidy example, and i want it to match. I know the intercooler is not the most efficient, but i want to fit this one anyway. Surely a low efficient intercooler is better than none at all. And anyway, i can always fit a quad grille back in and shove some cold air into it??

It was never intended by VW - why compromise for some misguided notion that it HAS to be VAG?

Is it the IC that's not up to it or is it it's placement?
I agree the G2 install is not the most efficient but what would you think of the following ?

the intercooler above is not a gtd item, as the inlet and outlet are on separate ends??

Well now my engine/gearbox is in I can actuelly see what room I have for the IC.

Guess what! The G2 GTD IC will not fit underneath as I was hoping. there's not enough room between the gearbox and the front valance(?) wether slanted, horisontal or vertical. It hangs to low, which then will make it prone to accidental pavements, speed bumps etc. So that's that!

The renault safrane 2.5TD IC is a liked donor for a front mounted IC over here in France; I'm going to give that a try.

It would seem that there is enough room for it with a "normal" golf mk1 grill and not to big for a jetta mk1 grill (which I will have one day).
