Standard 1.6td Blow off valve
Ive been reading loads of info on the GTD forum, on how to tune the 1.6td's and 1.9td's!
They all seem to block off the standard blowoff valve by replacing the spring or using a 1/4" cut off bolt to hold the diaphram shut.!!
Surely this is unsafe?????????
i really dont know much bout Diesels and turbos, but surely whats stopping the engine from over-boosting!? Ive just screwed the adjusting screw on the top which bleeds the pressure off at 18psi.
What has every1 on here done to tune their TD's?
There is only the GTD that runs this blow off valve IIRC
Mine runs up to 2bar depending on how giddy I m feeling.
Mine so far has (its a 1.9 TD AAZ) gtd injectors and boost pin, boost pin turned around, bigger turbo off 1.6TD not GTD, gov mod, fuel turned up to near run away point, gtd intercooler, bleed valve, bigger one box exhaust.
And 6 clutches in 12 months
mine has that blow off valve?!
only mods ive done is :-
-adjusted BOV to maximum thread by screw on top (18psi)
-2.5" Stanless Exhaust with 1 silencer
-turned fuel up to just below run away point (adjusted screw on side)
Torque steers in 2nd, so yours must be evil?
What Turbo are you running now then?
Mines a Garrett T3 i think? (although i think its knackard)
Simon, you're not confusing blow off valve with wastegate are you?
The BOV is a black plastic item.
Boost is controlled by the wastegate, people fit boost controllers or disable the wastegate to get more boost.
The BOV is sort off back-up over boost safety control and it is factory set to vent at around 12 - 15 psi, so if you want more boost than this you can block the BOV. The boost is then controlled solely by the wastegate then.
