Below is a couple pictures of a fuel cell on my daily driver. When I fill it up, it carrys about 21-22 gallons. I've only seen 2 types of tanks (i know there is more original models) this one and the std smaller. My thoughts are that this tank was an option when buying a new caddy from the factory. Does anyone have any vw knowledge about this issue[?];)

I have no knowledge of these[:I] and although I have heard of them, this is the first ive seen[:p]

To me, it looks aftermarket, and NOT a VW part!

I've heard of them too. You must only have to fill up every thousand miles or so!

I fill up once a month, it's great![:p]

Anyone in the u.s.a. have any "old timer" knowledge;) was this an option in the u.s.? I've seen 5 fuel cells from caddys, and 3 where of this type... if it is aftermarket then it was a popular mod for sure[:o)]

I want one!!!! On the three trucks I've owned, they all have had the smaller one. I would give my left pinky toe for one of those monstosities!

Gary- It probably wouldn't be that hard to make one out of some 3003 T14 sheet aluminum....

There's a place up the road from me called:
"The VW Caddy Fuel Cell Factory"
They have been producing these for ages.
They cost £35 and are made from reinforced kevlar.
They also export to the USA for an additional £10.

By pure coincidence, I just saw this listing on eBay for a "21+ gallon fuel (petrol) tank pulled from a vw pickup". I remembered reading this discussion last week and thought I should post it for the possible benefit of the readers of this site. The auction ends Feb-13-04 22:25:25 PST, and is currently at $165 US, with 5 bids.

I just discovered this great website last week - spent hours trying to read everything. (I have 3 Caddy's, '84 GTi, '79 Mk 1 'Rocco, and '87 Mk2 16V 'Rocco.) I'm especially interested in following the installation of the A2/A3 front subframe/mounts in an A1 - more posts, please, Admin!
