This is a site I found surfing around a while ago. Not sure how many may find it of use, but it's interesting reading.

It's definatly got a lot of info. Are you currently burning something other than diesel in your truck? As soon as I find a replacement tank (my truck's original tank is missing) I'm going to go with a two tank, heated vegetable oil system. It will be nice not to smell diesel all the time.

Currently I don't have anywhere to make BioDiesel, but hopefully soon I will have a garage to work in.

Here is an interesting letter from the founder of the veggie van organization. Very good stuff in the near future for bio-deisel.
Check out this letter and his site.I met Josh in '98 in Philly
when he was doing his original tour.

Biodiesel rocks! That's the whole reason I went on the search for a diesel caddy! I should be making a bunch starting in the spring!

DON'T WAIT! YOU CAN BUY BIO-DIESEL (NOT CONVERTED DEEP FAT FRIER VEGGIE OIL, BUT "NEW" SOY BASED) AND IT requires NO conversion; JUST FILL THE TANK. Call your local oil ditributor.

I know. I have a friend that's a distributor and you can buy B20 from a pump in my town. It's just SO much cheaper if you make it yourself. Plus, you're taking a "waste" product and making something very useful out of it.

Greetings,

On the 81 LX I got cheap, the engine went shortly after. Since then I put in a new 1.9L. Great engine. I run both biodiesel and straight vegetable oil (SVO). Just got back from a 7000 mile trip on 22 gals of biodiesel and 200 gallons of veggie I pumped out of oil dumpsters. It is easy and I recommend it for any diesel. Ever what to get rid of that smell and the diesel knock? I'll post pics later. Peace

Sounds cool GD, post 'em up. I was wondering if you've got a DIY SVO set up or grease car or something else. Where are you located at? I'm assuming US/CAN since you're rolling '81. Glad to hear you're liking the 1.9 since I will be going that way in the next year[:p]:)

I find that great, not dealing with oil major companies !

Its my understanding that biodiesel is a solvent. It makes an excellent cleaner and also has the possiblity of cleaning out all of the crud (algae, rust etc) out of your tank and clogging your filter. Biodiesel may also cause some gaskets to fail in injector pump and cause rubber fuel lines to disengrate. Best to start with a blend of diesel and biodiesel at first. I beleive viton(?) seals are recomended in the injector pump for biodiesel. I will be using regular veggie in my truck. You could also use a biodiesel veggie blend or diesel veggie blend.

Great info, my girlfriend bought a caddy for the specific purpose of running biodiesel. Thus I get to have a new project, and so far this has been a fun one. We have a biodiesel coop right in the neighborhood, so she is already running BD. I have a feeling I will be changing fuel lines and filters soon. Interesting thing, the BD seems to be cleaning out the gunk in the engine, kind of like running sea foam. I'll be following this forum, and probably asking a ton of questions.
