Fuel pumps aren't cheap. When I had my first one rebuilt, it cost me $405!

If your caddy is a non-turbo 1.6D now, why don't you buy a running 1.6TD (or 1.9 if you can find) engine? The swap is, besides a little welding on the exhaust, a straight drop in
Less dough, more power :)

One of the reasons I got rid of mine, such a bitch to work on, I could get the rad out in ten minutes though....the caddy is like a DUPLO kit in comparison :D

if you can find a running 1.6td for less than $1000 ill take it. there is a guy close to me that has 3 1.6 tds and i cant touch any of them for $3000. id love to have a turbo diesel but i have to set my priorities straight and the 1.6 in my truck is still running strong so i am not going to do anything to it except a minor overhaul(replace oil pan and gasket, head gasket and bolts, intake and exaust gaskets and what ever other gaskets i wanna replace), new pump and clutch. i am keeping the stock 1.6 in my truck cus i know if i get a turbo i am going to end up doing a complete rebuild like garry did and i cant afford to do that right now(trying to save money so i can move out of my parents house and me and my girlfriend can get an apartment together.

Yo Wabbitman - you should do rings and rodbearings while you have all that apart. It wouldn't add much to the complexity of the project!

nah. did that just a few years ago. i got another 50,000 miles before i need to do that. y fix something thats not broken. main reason im doing the gaskets is cus the head gasket has a slight water leak. not much but slight. also i dont want my truck to be down for more than a weekend. i know i can pull the engine replace gaskets, clutch, fuel pump, belts, side engine mounts, fix a few wires in the engine bay and put it back in in a weekend. that is if i bust ass like i always do when im working on my truck.

It's a whole different world in the US. TD parts are rare, and expensive!

if someone here in the usa had an edge on shipping they could bring euro 1.6td caddies over here left and right and make a fortune reselling them, or parting them out.

you just gave me an idea. how bout we figure out how much it would cost for a small container, see how many US members want a turbo diesel. then have one of the UK members or any place that has 1.6 TDs in abundance do the foot work and get the stuff ready.
ok now for the important ?'s
who wants a 1.6 TD?
Who in the uk or any place that has them in abundance is willing to help us US guys get TDs?
how much would it cost for each TD?
how much for the container?
who would be willing to be the 'reciever' here in the us(Garry you are closest)?
