I live in a small town called Newmarket north of Toronto Canada. I haven't seen a Caddy in years. So I bought mine this spring in Illinois. Today I saw 3! all about 3 blocks from my house.

The first is a silver "worker" with a cap and patina. Some old guy has it and holds it together with tape and wire.

The second is beige and belongs to a VW repair shop, so, he parks it by the road with a sign in the bed. He has the third inside his shop under re-construction. He has stretched the cab to fit the longer doors from a 2 door rabbit. I'l wait till I can get a picture of it then I'll post.

In sculpture class, patina is how you "finish" a sculpture, like paint, polyurethaine, bronze, whatever.

Chevy? What's that?

patina originally referred to the greenish film that forms over time on copper and bronze, but nowadays refers to any wear or distress of a surface caused by use or by technique to "age" a surface. patina is what usually distinguishes an "original" condition vehicle from a "restoration"

Laith is right...the green film is oxydation also called RUST.

In this case I use "patina" to refer to an original caddy "antique" with rust, dents, scratches and general wear.

I would hardly wish to disgrace a Caddy as calling it an old piece of s**t.

My truck has a nice mature "patina".

I thought its appearance would override any inclination for strangers to search the interior for items of value. But I assumed incorrectly as my stereo was stolen only four days after installation. What is frustrating is they also took my toolbag with all of my VW specific tools.

I've since acquired an alarm system which I will install when time permits. The stereo can easily be replaced. But the tools will take some time.

I had my GTI get broken into back in '98. The crooks messed up the doors trying to break in, before busting a window to get in:( They took my cheap CD player and a toolbox from the back. Had $1000 dollars in tools back there. Most were specialty bicycle tools. Still haven't replaced all of them. Some aren't made anymore:([xx(]:( I feel for ya squeegy. I sold that car...had kind of a citrus flavor to it.

My Jetta got robbed once, it was way lame, took my also new stereo out of it. So I rigged up the glove box stereo system in my pickup truck. I also don't ever leave tools in the back anymore, which is a major PITA, but since the tools are technically worth more than the car (all Snap-On), it's worth the peace of mind, even if it means a lot of extra hauling tools in and out and in and out and in and out.
