just about every time i shift into 5th gear it grinds until i basicly throw it in. i think i know what the problem is i just dont know how to fix it. the problem is where the ball on the bottom of the shifter in the cab is to far forward so it wont let 5th gear fully engage. there is also some slopyness while shifting. basicly when i move the shifter in the cab an inch the shift lever on the tranny moves a half and inch. how can i fix both of these problems. could my home made short throw shifter be to much short throw or does that change any thing other than gear travel in the cab.

Go get the shifter bushing kit that goes on the shifter and the rods to take up the slack...

Check your transmission fluid levels/condition. It may be low, or in rough shape. You may also want to try double clutching, shift into neutral, let go of the clutch, depress the clutch again, and put her into 5th.

It is possible that you have worn 5th gear synchros......normally caused by some clod resting his hand on the shifter. But def check all your adjustments 1st.

ok i have a temporary fix to a permanant problem. my home made short throw s**ter extention was cockied so i fixed it and it all works perfect except for when i go into thrid gear it feels like something in the shifter linkage is binding cus it goes into gear but the shifter in the cab feels like the shifter linkage is binding. i can get mossrite to help me fix it and many other minor problems when i go to meet him. thats just a thought but any help would be great.
