I was recommended using weber DCOE 40s with 30mm chokes and a 285 degree cam.

I have just sold my complete setup.. in favour of a new engine.

With the costs involved for a dual weber setup, you are better of going for a 1.8GTi 8 or 16v conversion.

rough breakdown of cost

pair of carbs (2nd hand) £300
manifold £150
fuel pump £80
throttle linkage £80
re jetting and tuning the carb ~£100 (depends on how many jets/tubes/chokes etc you need to buy)

You can get a 1.8gti engine for about £200.
