Hello All, This is my first post, and I am in need of some help. I have
three junkyard special diesel injection pumps for my 1.6na. All three are leaking from the shaft seal. not just seeping or dripping. practically squirting out right onto the timing belt wheel and onto my belt. :tb I need to know if there is a way that I can replace the seal? does anyone have the part number? Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi Btwiceborn, welcome to the forum!
Wow sounds like you have all the luck to have all 3 pumps leaking. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of information (that I've seen anyhow) on tearing into the pump, and vw pretty much considers the pump its own part IIRC. A couple guys on here have torn into them, and since you have 3 it might be worth it to open one up to see what you can see. If you were able to get the seal out I'm sure that a diesel shop that rebuilds the pumps would be willing to sell you what you need.
There may be information on the vw tdi/ idi forum about pump repair. There is also some good pump info in this manual courtesy of DieselsRcool:

Hope this helps, others here probaby know more, but I've been lucky enough to not have that leaking problem yet. Let us know what you find.

It's not that hard to dissassemble , just mark take notes or pictures with every step you make.
Work in a clean environment as dirt can really mess up your pump.
Seals can be bought at the local dieselshop and are cheap.

Were in luck Guys!! The kind folk at the vw dealer parts counter didnt even think that there were gaskets available for these pumps. :(! Through some searching I happened upon this website.

I am getting my seal kits for $5.92 each. :D
I am sure someone out there will tell me they already knew of this place, but i wanted to list it for those who dont know.

Not hard to replace the front pump seal. All you need is a new front seal, like $5.00. Remove the timing gear on the pump, pull the seal, put new seal in, and reinstall the gear and retime the engine... About 2 hours work if it's your first time.
I've done several, and have them down to about 30 mins. :td

Thanks for the insight. I got my seal kits yesterday, and decided i would just try to slap a new front seal in the thing. I did and it took about an hour. I am having trouble with bleeding the hard lines though. I was able to bleed the 1,2,and 4 line out no problem, but the 3 line wont bleed out. i tried for about an hour last night. remember, i am using a pump off of a running car. is there a possibility that the pump would be able to send fuel to 3 injectors, but the 4th port not work? :screwy: let me know. I would love to be off and running in my first vw diesel. the pump and cam timing are correct. the good thing is that i am not leaking out of the front seal anymore. :thumbs_up
