Just curious here....in the US we had CIS on the '80 models and CIS-Lamda on 81-84. What did the caddy come with in the UK?
Thanks,
Scott
A crappy Pierberg CARB[xx(][xx(] The only caddy to get FI was the 1.8 Sport which had Kjet (same as Cabrio).
We didnt have the emission restrictions you had State side, Cat's were not intruduced by law until 1993 so it never effected the Caddy as production stopped late 1991.

Here a question from a novice: can you "chip" a sport?
And can you fit double webbers to a caddy? (NOT mine, that would be stupid!)

You can fit double webbers to anything if you want?!
Lots of 1.8 gti's have webber twin 40 conversions.
From reading the reviews and looking at prices I have concluded the following:
1. It costs about £800-1000!!!
2. If you have the webbers on the same side as the exhaust (as the vw engine) the heat from the engine boils the petrol and messes things right up!!
3. Best method is to swap inlet config around so that the fuel goes in the other side to the exhaust. (ex = back, fuel = front)
4. It sounds and looks great.
5. You need extra fuel from an uprated fuel pump.
6. It'll make you're caddy go quicker!!!!!
CHIP A SPORT? Dunno. Is it still governed by a management system? If so, then if someone makes a chip for it, you can chip it!!!
You cannot chip you sport as it doesnt have an ECU (engine control unit) but has the old mechanical fuel injection, the only electronic part on your car is the Ignition Module & hall sensor (in dizzy) to do away with points etc.
If you use your sport or any car come to that on a daily basis, twin carbs are more trouble than they are worth as they need constant fettling, like p4ulo said they sound fantasic, but they will not give you much if any more power unless you carry out some serious head work, including bigger valves, porting, high lift cam and exhaust etc. Its no good trying to pump a load more fuel and air through big carbs unless the rest of the engine can circulate it efficiently.
There are better ways to make power gains IMO;)

Yeah, one of my brothers fitted twin webbers to his XR2. Near on crapped myself when we did 120 mph (and he says there was more left). And i know, it was a ford...sorry

Skip all the carbs and go diesel!
