I have heard discussion about that one fuel line that's a different size on both ends. Well last weekend I got some 8MM hose and by soaking the end in warm water it did fit, just so you all know.

well just to let you know there is a three inch piece of hose made where one end is 8mm and the other end is 12mm. i bought one after i got tired of the *oringinal* hose in my truck leaking diesel everywhere. and well it was easy to put in. didnt dump much fuel on the ground and i had a full tank when i put the new hose in. i tried the warm water thingy before and well garry you have the magic touch cus i spend about an hour trying to get it on and it didnt work. so i just went about bought the 8mm to 12mm adapter hose and i had to old stuff off and the new hose on in about 5-10 minutes.

I think I jammed my needle-nose pliers down the smaller hose and did the old '80 spring workout thing with it to stretch it to the right (or close enough) diameter. This is good for rubber right?
I'll have to try the hot water next time :I

I took a piece of 8mm OD tube and soldered into a piece 12mm OD tube to make an adapter. Now I can use just straight hose.

Well, I'm just saying that it worked so it can be done, although it wasn't easy. Maybe it was the brand of hose I had. I got some high grade stuff from D&W Diesel, gave them the specs of what I needed and that stuff worked. They tried it in the shop before they sent me home with it to make sure it'd go. Maybe I should start selling it.

I should check mine. Don't think bio's been helping it any. Hate to have it go bye-bye at an inopportune time!

I'm still busy getting my project caddy road-worthy, and this thread hit me between the eyes. After a lot of work I had several details- among them a fuel leak just a fore of the tank. Yes I was dombfounded when I first tried to plumb up a line that "looked right". After some diesel fingered head scratching I decided that the ends were different (quickly confirmed with a caliper). That's when I logged on and discovered this thread. Well at least now I know the sizes. Right now shes dry but have a fealing that she'll develop a leak. Will try a solution along the lines of dieselsrcool first then see what happens.

think i would have done the same but when you've got a half full tank and it's emptying down your arm soldering can be a little tricky/dangerous!!!!

LOL, You're scaring me.

You don't solder to the tank, you just make an adapter and put it between tha tank and the frame tubing using a piece of 8mm fuel hose to connect it to frame and a pc of 12mm hose to connect it to the tank.

You're scaring me.hahahahh. Haven't I seen similar adapters in the hardware store? Is copper compatable with gas/diesel? I don't know.
Hey, not to jack your topic, but I was wondering why you're claiming Los Barriles? Are you down there catching fish by day and sitting in the hammock, listening to buffet, drinking mai tias and margaritas other times? Hope it's nice. You should see if al would put up the avatar that I saw on the gtd forum, very sweet. The old "november bug" I guess it was http://vwcaddyforum.com/showthread.php?t=3023
