Have you tried the dealer?

Yes I tried the local dealer ( $98 ) seemed a little high , I hoped that some one would know of a better source or had an old one that I could use to make a replacement . I would like to keep driving mine until I get a replacement .

$98!! You could have a metal braided line made for less than that.

Can anyone tell me how their braided hoses attach to the rear axel ? I don't want them stressing the steel lines .
Does any one have an set of old rear hoses ( two hoses one piece assembly ) for a Caddy that I could use to make up replacement hoses . I don't want to remove mine as I am still driving my Caddy .

A fellow caddy nut once took a used rear line set up and had them make the exact same thing, only with braided lines. Since you can't find another truck line though, you'll have to measure the lines, and figure out the thread/fitting sizes and go from there. You could always just have 2 lines made, and zip tye them to the axle where they meet the hardline, or when the new lines are made you could cut the mounting plate off your old line and figure out a way to clamp/weld/braze the lines onto the plate.

why on earth would you have them made up,when you can buy them over the counter like I just said!!the braided lines attach to the rear axle just the same as the standard vw ones, how can they stress the steel lines???

vr6rallye,
Where did you get yours ? All the companies that I have talked to offer braided sets for the Rabbit but not the Rabbit pickup ( Pt # 147611775A ). If you have a source please let me know how to contact them .

vr6rallye,
Thanks for the name and phone number .
I called them and talked to Mike . No luck he said that they do not offer any thing for the VW Rabbit pickup, only the Rabbit car .
I may have the answer though . I stopped by the German Auto shop of a fellow I know ( suprise he has a Caddy ) and he said that there is a " replacement plate " so that I could then use standard brake hoses . He ordered one , I should know if it works in a few days .
A funny thing in my search for rear brake hoses is the most common quote from the parts suppliers before they told me they did not have one is " I have never been asked for one before " . So I would assume that most US Caddy's are running around with the original rear brake hose .

that is strange as goodridge uk do them, you think the guys in the us could email there depot in the uk and either get a set shipped out for you,or get the measurements to make you a set.
anyway good news that you have sorted it in the end :)

Well this is why I gave the info I did, "[Kazan]No luck he said that they do not offer any thing for the VW Rabbit pickup Imagine that mate! Next time you feel the need to take the piss realize that things can be different in each country would ya?
On another note the only time I have seen a goodridge kit fit a truck was when someone bought the 6 line kit( 2 front, 2 short rear, and the 2 where the rear axle mounts that no one ever replaces) and what the guy did was connect each of the 4 rears respectively to make 2 longer lines, then zip tied them to the axle.
Kazan- let us know how it works out. I've also yet to see anyone replacing their rear rubber line because of wear.

ok the record now stands around 105>1 [:p]

Ok for the record 105 > 2 .
It looks like the part I ordered is a no go .
I called the shop where I ordered it and it has arrived , but John did not think it will work . He wants me to bring my Caddy in so that we can put it up on his rack and see if we can figure out something that will work . Life goes on .
Once I get the hoses squared away I want to move on to better brakes . I am thinking bigger ( 10" ? ) vented discs in the front and staying with the drums in the rear . If I stay with the disc/drum setup do I have to replace my master cylinder and vacuum assist ?

You'll need to get the larger 22mm master cylinder and appropriate servo.
You could buy all the gear for the larger 10.1 brakes, but I think you would be fine with a set of vented gti rotors (9.4's), better pads, and the larger MC/Servo. I'm running a set of ATE slotted/vented 9.4's w/ decent pads, and the 22mm MC/mk2 servo and my brakes are rediculously good.
after swapping in whatever you decide to run, it would be a good time to flush/replace the brake fluid. I suggest spending a little more $ and getting some performance type fluid.
I should also tell you there are many cars that have the 22mm MC ( VW and Audi) though I don't know em' all off the top of my head. Here's a link to give you the gist of what you're tackling:

Hey, i have an old "parts" caddy that still has good rear brake lines in it, would you be interested in them still? I'm not sure exactly which ones you need, but if you could describe them to me i will give you a good deal on them. LMK

I bought the rear brake hose ( 20% of list ) . Now the thing that gets me is that the price is so high because it is supposed to be " New Old Stock " and there are only eleven ( now ten ) left in a warehouse some were in Texas . I open the box expecting to find a duplicate of the assembly that is on my Caddy , made in USA solid machined steel union at the axel end of the two hoses , what I find is a brand new made in Germany stamped sheet metal bracket at the axel end of the two hoses . Don't get me wrong I think it will do the job perfectly and if I ever need to replace the hoses I think I will be able to just replace the hoses ( about $12 each ) and not need to replace the bracket .

Well I finally got around to installing that blasted rear brake hose assembly . What a pain , you would think at the price I paid it would be a direct replacement . On the original assembly the ends of the brake hoses mount side by side in the center of the bracket , on the new assembly the the hoses mount on the outer edges of the bracket facing out . I had to bend some fancy S-S in the steel lines to get it to fit . I think I had to shorten the steel lines about 1 1/2" each to center the bracket .

To those needing to replace their rear brake hoses .
If I had this to do over I think that I would send my old hose assembly to some one like these guys http://www.magillsquality.com/brakehose.htm and have new hoses installed on my old fittings .
