as we all know when the axle is flipped the bracket for the bracket compensator spring ends up above the axle, thus making the brakes act as though the truck is under load. how far down the bracket should i drill to relocate the spring into its "normal" set up?

I have cut the bracket off, shortened it, and welded it back on. Compensator still works well and no catching.

ok guinea pig time LOL i'm gonna drill another hole half way down the bracket on the axle re attach the spring there. will find out if the brake bias is correct on the m.o.t rollers.........

cheers kev - will the backs perform ok even if acting as though it were under load? if so, why do we need to mod the spring location?

Should do,you need to keep more effort upfront for normal driving otherwise you could end up locking your rear wheels[:0], if your caddy is well loaded you need to increase the effort at the rear thats where the compensator comes in.:)

kev do you mean that you havent re-fitted the compensator spring or you have removed the whole thing entirely?

My spring was missing when first bought my caddy and i have never done anything about it[:I].I was going to remove my compensator but i haven't got round to it yet.You will have to connect your compensator or remove it completely for your mot.:)

ok will do. what does having the compensator but no spring do for the brakes?

Hi Jimmy
been breaking donor caddy started taking back axle off and this does not have compensator or spring bracket on this it s a C reg, but mine has and its a G reg.
The C reg had no problems breaking even though compensator & spring brackets missing. I am thinking about putting this system on to my G reg.
