View Full Version : Fuel lines to injectors
I am new to VW Rabbit PU/Caddy as I just bought an 81 1.6L Diesel today. Runs OK but has a problem with leaking fuel at hose going to an injector. I am wondering what size are these hoses and what the originals are made of. Anyone else have this problem? Any help appreciated.

I've had the issue before. Sometimes if you take a set of dikes, take the hose off, cut 1/2" off the end, and shove it back onto the injector that'll fix it.
They are special diesel hoses. If you need to order a set they're called "Diesel fuel return hoses" or soemthing to that effect. The stuff is real cheap, you usually get a roll of it and then cut to length. Just make sure you put it back on correctly.

Thanks for the info. I have heard that diesel will soften or disolve standard hoses. I think this is what is happening. I am not sure of the size of the hose. There are no retaining clips so it must be held on by the tension of the hose on the injector. Does anyone know what the I.D. of the hose?

That's correct, the hoses have to be Diesel spec. Don't know the ID off the top of my head, sorry.

spec info: 3.5mm, cloth-covered 1 ply, part no. N 20 353 5
I now see that the #3 cylinder fuel line coupling is leaking a bit on the injector side. I am going to order replacements for all the lines. I see seals for the pump side advertised, what about the injector side? This part of the machine seems quite moody.
