I have one from 1981. Or at least I think it is one. It's called a "Sportruck", supposedly the sports edition of the caddy. Of course, it's not very sporty anymore since I put a diesel in it, and it's got more rust than steel left in it.

Legend has it that only 200 were made. Thats 199 plus mine :D
Darth: the model VR6 is reffering to is the UK sport model, came from the factory with K-Jet GTi engine, bodykit, alloys, GTi seats - dash etc etc
Oh and all in one bumper towbar thingy;)

Mine's definately not that! The VR6 wasn't invented in 1981! But the USA did have a model called the "Sportruck" which had a GTI engine, additional trim lines and an extra gauge cluster. It also had a custom paint job(see the photo attached to my profile). It's pretty tacky looking, especially when it's all old and rusty, but I love it anyways!

Sportruck was only a trim package so it had a 1.7 in the US not the GTI engine.

I stand corrected. I thought that the original "GTI" engine was a 1.7 with higher compression ratios and a few other upgrades, although I could be wrong. I never saw the original engine that was in my sportruck, although the guy wanted to sell it to me for an extra $75. I didn't have the money at the time, and was planning on putting a diesel in it anyways.

Man darth, i'm having the same problem, I've got a gasser that I can't get rid of. I'm trying real hard to trade for a diesel... and even a non-running diesel... some day.
