Looking into why my gas gauge would be off,
Think I ve got good ground and connections as I see no junping gauges or other funny things going on with instruments.
Anyone ever get into the sender? maybe float arm needs bending ?
Thanks , Ken

sometimes this is one of the first signes of the resistor on the back of the instrument binnacle f**king up. it is a little black thing about 5 mm square with three metal prongs sticking out .go to your local breakers and nick one to try it out. good luck

Mine has the same problem, I'll change that resistor when I replace the odometer, oil idiot light and radio. Thanks..

I think part of this might be the tank design as my 84 gti would go well past full when filled up (10 gal) but my caddy does the same thing (about 3/4) when the diesel pump shuts off. I've found that most diesel pumps pump so fast that the fuel kinda foams and causes the pump to shut off early. I once sat there (on my friends farm --he has a diesel pump) for a good 10 min to see how much would fit and I think I got another good 2 gallons in after the auto shut off. The gauge then did read full but I don't think that this was Vw's intent on how to fuel.

That's exactly what I found with both Caddy diesels I've owned - you can get just over two gallons more in them after the automatic pump cut off.

Well you can get it full on a normal pump as well, just continju after the pump cuts off but just pull a litle so it pumps slower..
Just filled 9 liters more today after pump had cut off first time[^]

i never have that problem. when the pump turns off my tank is full. i can see the fuel when i look into the filler neck and i can tell its full.

I changed that 3 pronged resistor and it fixed mine.
