I'm Baaaack! Not that I was ever really "here" in the first place....

So, its been a long hard winter. Tax season is over, so my duty of overworked office manager with too much to do has given over to my duty of bored office worker with too little to do.

My apoplogies to the gentleman who wanted to buy my roof handles from my convertible. The car is still in my driveway, but like I said its been a long hard winter. Anyone ever had that thing happen where your boy/girl friend of 7+ years has a personality/midlife crisis and leaves you with no explanation or communication? Well I'm three months into that now.

I have been left with a used volkswagen potpourri and not enough mechanical smarts to deal with any of it by myself. Converting a gas to diesel maybe wasn't a crazy thought when I had Mr. Goodwrench living with me, but it makes no sense now. The garages around here say no way.

The truck needs bump stop, one cv boot is ripped, shocks front and rear, brake work front and rear, exhaust work -- at exhaust manifold and mid pipe... Plus ;') passenger front strut tower will bust out with out welding, and oh yeah, floorboard in the cab is rusted. Non of it really any big deal except that [u]I don't really want</u> a gas engine vehicle, so after the cost of [u]paying</u> someone to do the repair I won't even have what I really want. I love to drive, can do some mechanics, not confident or excited about the thought of replacing all that by myself.

Does any of this womanly soap opera make anyone want to buy a caddy? Or trade a diesel for it? I have pictures posted in here some where from those 5 or so months ago. I can post more if any one is interested. I will throw some other parts and/or cars into the deal too! ;) I did see two diesel caddys today... Maybe one of you diesel guys will buy them because I'm going to post the link, but I'm really bad at being self interested. I think everything will work out anyway. They were somewhere in the bargainnews.com in connecticut. I can't get back to the exact page at the moment.

Anyway......

first of all just wanted to say sorry to hear about your misfortune, but having the outlook that "everything will work out anyway" is a good way to go about life, always seems to work for me atleast because it truly does all work out in the end, do you have any other vw's other than the caddy??? goodluck with everything :)

It's probably best to just get a diesel truck and sell this one for what you can get or fix then sell, whatever you think is easiest. Maybe make a post over at www.vwvortex.com as you may find someone in your area willing to lend a hand.

I agree with estimatd that it all will work out. on a diffrent not it is nice to hear from a vw chic that lives in the us. If I could only find one in maryland area. being a caddy owner deserves a bonus. Sorrie cant help you with you mechanical problems

I do currently have in various states of needing work 83 gti 89 cabriolet 77 rabbit 71 westy. They really are all project cars, or for parts. Funny how it seems so logical to only own a bunch of old cars when there is someone around who likes working on them. It doesn't seem so logical now.

rotted strut tower means trouble, few will try to fix that I believe, if they are interested a buddy of mine has solid towers he cut out of a wrecked rabbit. hey with all those dubs maybe you will hook up with another dubber. I heard of guys going for ladies with nice cars, but I haven't heard of any going with someome with 4 projects!! just kidding, good luck, hey bargainnews is read up in maine, there are always diesels down here in CT.

Hey Jen,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have a diesel caddy I was thinking of parting out and had you in mind for the motor. It is a bit of work to do the conversion. Darth Garry's Dad can do it in six hours.... Maybe not the best project to cut your teeth on. Best of luck selling off your projects and getting a good runner! I've seen a surge of rabbits around in the northeast this year. You should be able to get one! Keep the faith! I know where there was a tan diesel that had a recently rebuilt motor and almost no rust on the strut towers for $1K. The rest was pretty beat and dented, though. Again, good luck. Drop us a line if you need a hand with anything.

I'm sorry things didn't work out as well. All I can say is Keep the faith. It's probably not a bad idea to unload several vehicles, and then you can get a diesel no problem. Good luck, and keep the faith!

Garry

yup, Dave...
I'm seeing that with the tower. Got an estimate at about 1200 to make this truck inspectable. This was done by the garage, taken to the most expensive body shop, but the closest. I'm really thinking of getting a loan on a new diesel jetta wagon or something if I can. Or pre owned... got to have the space for the dog so he doesn't trash the interior. I love the old cars, but I need a good highway car too, thinking of going back to school and would need to travel about 65 miles one way on the interstate. After a few years of being rattled apart in the GTI at 70 mph, I don't think the old ones are the best for highway travel.

Better luck around the bend...

Look on the brite side... ...you know who Mr. Goodwrench is.

As for running the North American Volkswagen Homeless Shelter, I would suggest figuring out what of your old VW's you want to keep and find good homes for the others.

If you are planning on getting another caddy, I would actually suggest keeping the gas truck and using it for parts on the diesel. I have found that most of the parts are exactly the same other than the obvious engine, fuel tank, fuel lines, instrument cluster, air intake, etc...
