My caddy died and my VW guru told me (without even looking at my truck) that rust had built up in the tank since it sat for some time and that after my couple weeks of short drives that rust had made it into the distibutor or furthur...
I didnt believe that he could diagnose the problem and be so sure of himself without even looking.
I removed the fuel filter tonight and brownish red fuel poured out EEEWWWWW it was nasty I poured the gas through a paper towel to see the sediments and it actually clogged the towel and puddled.....
looked like muddy water.
Im convinced that my VW mechanic is a VW god.

he is good...but he has most likely been around these things alot. i would drain and clean the tank as well as clean the fuel system...and replace the fuel filter. at least you can clean yours though, mine has holes in it...

Can I drop the tank with tools?
Or is there cutting required?

I guess Im gonna have my mechanic fix it all since hes putting the 16V in it anyways.....

you should be able to just use tools. some of the mounting hardware may be a bit rusty and tight....try not to cut anything unless you know you have a good spare
