Hey garry, I seem to have an exhaust leak through my injector (#4), like they aren't tight enough. Could this be the problem, or have I missed something?

Any info, as always, is welcome.

Thanks

An exhaust leak through your injectors??? I know they have to be TIGHT, I don't have the torque specs on me. Is it leaking from the the threads, or elsewhere? Is it all of them or one of them? I know that to get them loose last time I had to use a breaker bar with a 6' pipe on it, that's how tite they were, so maybe they are loose, but I wouldn't go over torquing them yet, until you get the specs. I can ask my old man about it, I should talk to him today.

Later,

Garry

Thanks Garry. It just seems to be the first one on the right. The others just looklike they're burning off crud from the out side of the case.

Hayes Manual says 51 Ft. lbs, but I have no way to test this right now. And I'm hoping it's just that since new injectors are $132.15 at the closest AutoZone. I need to toy with the linkage still, too.

Garry, how do you torque there things down? I'm sure I missed something obvious. (I did take the injector lines off completely)

Last time I did it, I removed the injector lines, return lines, got a deepwelled socket, and torquewrench, and um... turned until the wrench went click click.

Are they still leaking? That's so weird!

Did you replace the heat shields under the injectors before you torqued them back down? Bentley manual states that they are NOT reuseable

Okay, I'll try that, Garry. I figured I'd need a socket. The annoying part of working on my PickUp is that I don't have my own tool. I use my brother-in-law's.

Guess I should invest in my own soon. LoL

Guess you should invest in a good ole reliable gas engine, with none of these probs.
Sorry, I know this prob is p1ssing you off!!!!

Actually, I've worked on enough gas engines to know I hate them with a passion beyond compare. They're all money pits. I have a '84 Scirocco sitting in my driveway to prove it.

I knew I'd have to spend lots of time & money to get this truck running(more time then money). I also knew I didn't know a thing about it. It's as much a tool for education as it is a tool for transportation. Garry has been pretty patient with my annoying questions, too.

I hate them too. Always weird things happening that make them run weird/studder/idle weird etc. I'm sick of it already and I've already been driving gas for a week!

My scirocco idled at 1000-1500 RPM ever since I bought it. My brother-in-law, who has been a mechanic since birth, & I couldn't figure out why it idled like that. (Then I put a hole in the tranny. Oops! LoL) And my half-brother owns a Nova (No Va in spanish mean "No go") which runs like crap, is falling apart (thats GMs fault), and, ironically, it diesels when you shut it off. That's just two of the gas engines I've dealt with.

Gas engines are too much a pain. At least with my Diesel the issues are straight forward...I just lack all the skills to get it done in a weekend by myself.:D
