Been looking around this site now for a while and thought I'd best introduce my self!

I'm currently on the lookout for a mk1 caddy, been working on a project for a quite a while (fiat coupe with 4x4 conversion from lancia integrale) now i'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with this I fancy something else to get my teeth into.

Been looking for a VW for quite a while and decided a caddy would be a good choice as (i'm not sure how many of you will approve of this) i can throw my dh bike in the back of it.

Going to keep my eyes open in the classifieds, and keep taking in as much info as possible!

Cheers
James

That coupe sounds like a picture worthy project,
still some phots up matey.

Me and the missus used to have a 16VT Coupe, what an awesome car that was,
although the chassis was so flexible you couldn't close the door if you jacked it up!

Good luck looking for a caddy project,
theres some around I'm sure!

Yeah, i love it - full time 4x4 60/40 to the rear wheels.

Think I'm looking in the wrong season, gives me time to get some together and look for a nice one though!

here are a couple of pics of the coop - bodywork and suspension to finish, new tank fitted, exhaust being fabricated this week!

Hats off matey, I wouldn't even know where to begin with something like that,
you must have some mega skills.
Have you had it under timed conditions yet, I bet it goes rather nicely!?

Keep us posted on its progress, I have always been a coupe fan, and Al has a rather unhealty interest in them too, as he used to work for Alfa / Fiat (can't remember which!)

Good skills, welcome along,
Paul.

Picking the car up from an exhaust fabricator tomorrow, 1 step nearer being finished (not that i see it ever being finished) think if I manage to get it home I've a leaking clutch slave cylinder to fix!

Have to be honest and give the majority of the credit for the work to a friend of mine, i'm just a keen learner and trying to pick up as much as I can as I work on the car.

The coop hasn't been raced yet, but it will be taken to some track days and some sprints/hill climbs. unfortunately it's not really eligible for any racing series.

Going looking this weekend for a nice unmolested mk1 caddy. Something to work on but hopefully with a sound body. What should I be looking at paying for something like that?

cheers
James

around 500 - 1000.
Unfortunately, some seller know what a clean one is worth to us desperados,
so they might try and take the piss.

Make sure the bed is mint, other bits can be replaced, but bed parts aren't available anymore!

Good luck matey.

Bit of an update.

Put a deposit down on a caddy today, should be picking it up at the weekend. Spent a bit more that I was going to, but after seeing a couple of cars that I just wasn't happy with I thought I'd play it safe. Body is very clean, white 1.6d 5spd - still have the coop if i want to get somewhere quickly ;) Don't want to tempt fate so will leave it there for now.

Cheers for advice and help given in the search
James
